Wild Win Final Game In Team Mexico Series
Sunday, June 6th: After scoring only two runs in fourteen innings of softball yesterday, the Wild scored ten runs Sunday morning, winning the final game of the series against Team Mexico, 10-2.
The Wild began their scoring via the long ball in the first inning on back-to-back home runs from Kelsey Harshman and Kaleigh Rafter, giving the Wild an early 3-0 to begin the game.
Team Mexico would get a long ball of their own in the top of the third inning from Cervantes off of Wild starter Danielle Lawrie, making it a 3-1, Wild.
Janet Leung began the fourth inning for the Wild with an infield single, her first of the year. Leung would later score in the inning on an RBI groundout from Harshman, her third RBI of the day, extending the Wilds' lead 4-1.
Wild added six more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, bringing eleven hitters to the plate. The Inning started with a double from Jennifer Gilbert, followed by a two-run home run by Jennifer Salling.
The Wild would later put runners at first and second base with one out. Victoria Hayward would drive both runners in on a triple to left-center, extending the Wild lead, 8-1. Two more runners would score in the inning on an error from the Team Mexico, giving the Wild a nine run lead, 10-1.
Sara Groenewegen came into pitch for the Wild in the fifth inning, retiring all nine batters she faced to end the ballgame.
Wild win the series against Team Mexico, 2-1-1, and move to 5-2-1 on the year. The next series for the Wild will be their final series at Rent One Park this year, against Elite Softball, beginning on Friday, June 18, with a 7:05 PM CT first pitch.
