Wild Win Series Opener Against Team Mexico
The Wild pick up their fourth win of the year against Team Mexico in the series opener Friday at Rent One Park.
The Wild got out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first inning, pushing across three runs on five hits. Kaleigh Rafter and Jennifer Gilbert each had an RBI single, and Jennifer Salling drove a run in with an RBI fly ball to centerfield, making it 3-0 Wild.
The Wild tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. First run in the inning came on an RBI fly ball to right from Kelsey Harshman, scoring Victoria Hayward, making it 4-0 Wild. Rafter was next up at the plate and hit a solo shot to left center, putting the Wild up 5-0 in the fifth.
Danielle Lawrie started the top of the sixth with a strikeout, following that by giving up three straight singles to Team Mexico, making the bases loaded with one out. Lawrie was able to get the next batter to pop up for out number two, then got out number three on another pop up on the infield, keeping the score 5-0 Wild.
The bottom of the sixth inning started with a hit by pitch to Emma Entzminger, who later came around to score on an error by Team Mexico's defense. Wild would lead 6-0 going into the seventh.
Team Mexico was able to plate two runners in the top of the seventh inning against Lawrie. First one on an RBI groundout from Vidales, the second on an RBI single from Sanchez. Two runs wasn't enough for Team Mexico, as the Wild win their fourth game of the year 6-2.
Sara Groenewegen gets the win for the Wild, pitching four innings giving up no runs on two hits and picked up three strikeouts as well.
Team Mexico and The Wild will play a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday June 5, starting at 11 AM CT.
